What to Wear According to Your Body Type

Knowing your body shape makes a long way on dressing more flattering. Your specific measurements determine which cuts can make you look slimmer, taller, larger, etc. And it goes beyond being skinny or curvy, size has nothing to do with shape. So, before even thinking of finding your personal style, take the measurement tape, write down your numbers for shoulders, bust, waist, and hips, and define your shape. Once you have that ready, here's what to wear according to your body shape.

If your shoulder/bust and hip measurement are close to each other and your waist is smaller, your body shape is HOURGLASS. Look for pieces that accentuate your waist and add volume such as wrap tops.
Pieces to look for if you're the HOURGLASS type: Wrap tops and dresses, skinny jeans, pencil skirts. For swimwear, opt for strapless tops.

If your hips are larger than your shoulders or bust, your body shape is PEAR SHAPED. Look for pieces fit at the waist and flare on the lower body such as bell-bottomed pants.
Pieces to look for if you're the PEAR-SHAPED type:  A-line skirts, fitted tops, boot-cut jeans, culottes, and high-waisted bottoms.

If your shoulders/bust measurement is bigger than your hip measurement, your body shape is INVERTED TRIANGLE or apple shape. Look for pieces that define your waist and flare over your hips to give more volume to your lower body and balance broad shoulders.
Pieces to look for if you're the INVERTED TRIANGLE type: Tailored jackets, dark-colored tops, straight leg bottoms, mom jeans, and for swimwear, halter tops.

If your waist is smaller than your bust, and your shoulders, bust, and hip measurements are close to each other, your body shape is RECTANGLE. Look for pieces that give more volume to your lower body like ruffled skirts.
Pieces to look for if you're the RECTANGLE type: V-neck tops, structured shoulders, mid-rise bottoms, ruffled skirts, prints and embellishments.
